Leica’s TL2 gains 24MP sensor, more power and a careful polish

Leica has announced the TL2 APS-C mirrorless interchangeable lens camera. The latest TL-mount model gains a 24MP sensor, more processing power and more comfortable, chamfered edges.

The greater processing power brings up to 20 fps continuous shooting (in e-shutter mode), along with UHD 4K/30p video capture. It also gains a Type-C USB 3.0 connector and HDMI output. Leica also claims faster startup times, faster focus and an eight-fold increase in touchscreen responsiveness. Battery life has dropped considerably since the original TL, however.

Other changes include smoother edges to its milled-from-a-block-of-aluminum body and a reworking of the icon-based menu system, grouping camera functions into sub-menus for easier navigation.

The TL2, available in either Silver or Black anodized finish, will sell for around $1,950: around $250 more than the original TL. The new camera remains compatible with the $575 Visoflex Typ 020 2.36M-dot EVF and all the company’s existing TL and SL lenses.
